Artists Statement

My work is created out of a need to express myself without words using diverse techniques in water media ranging from abstract to extreme realism.

Portraits let me get to know the subject intimately as I translate my feelings about people into art. I create landscapes and still life paintings to capture my emotions of a given subject in a way that excites or soothes the viewer, using two dimensions, as I was excited or soothed seeing the "real thing."

I have begun creating manipulative artwork, “ManipulArt," to give the viewer more than one way to view a painting. ManipulArt paintings can be arranged and rearranged in a multitude of ways creating different views and in some cases, different scenes. This entices the viewer to change the art as they change their mood. These paintings start with a theme or color scheme that "finds itself" on the canvas. The 'viewer' becomes 'the artist' as they manipulate the paintings.
